New PRIUS Styling = Aerodynamics + Fuel Efficiency
Mr. Kunimatsu, AutoLabo, decided to start up this project of PRIUS body kit in late 2005 when he planned to expand his business portfolio of Super Taikyu Race support and used car dealership. His idea was not only to create a new body kit for a car, but also to challenge the concept of PRIUS. From his experience in speed racing and aerodynamics, an idea came to him. "Though PRIUS is ranked as the No.1 vehicle in the fuel efficiency and the aerodynamics styling, it still should have some room to improve its fuel efficiency at high speed driving by ECO Concept Body Kit.
It was really a challenge to mix and match all the factors of aerodynamic theories, decent looks for wide generations, and most importantly, costs in a realistic balance. It took months and years, and when it debuted at 2008 Tokyo Auto Salon in Japan, the stage was ready for this kit as the oil price is hitting the record high in every months to come.
The basic kit comes in 3 piece, Front Full Bumper, Side Steps and Rear Full Bumper, and there is optional Carbon/FRP Wing which fits onto the original one. But the uniqueness of this body kit is that there is optional Rear Wheel Skirts, which have the definite advantage for the improvement of fuel efficiency. (By AutoLabo demo car test of 1000km in the city area, mileage(in kilometer) with full body kit of 5 pieces was improved by 3km/litter than 25km/litter without kits.*Please note that mileage varies by road, traffic and weather conditions.)
